I bought this to add to my smart home collection of devices controlled. I already had a Wemo Insight switch so I knew the brand wouldn’t let me down. Main use for this smart switch is to control my air purifier. The app is intuitive and easy to set up automations. Also works with IFTTT so sky is the limit. Was a little expensive however.

It didn’t work out of the box, due to a firmware update being required (and mismatched to the QR code on the box). I tried everything, went online for support, etc… no go. So why the 5 stars? Well, before I threw it in trash and accepted that I was the tree and not the dog, I decided to spend 30 mins and call their tech support. Super helpful, got the device working, I even dropped the call by accident and was able to reconnect where I left off with a new agent (meanwhile, the original agent even called me back). The only impressive support experience I’ve had from a big corporation. The app is nice too now that it’s working 😉 Well done Belkin!

This works well now that I have it up and running. Helpful tip: if you are trying to get this integrated with HomeKit, you have to do it using the iPhone that the Home network was originally set up with. I spent 45 minutes cursing this thing because it kept failing during the install because I had downloaded the WeMo app on my phone and our HomeKit network was originally set up using my wife’s phone. Once I downloaded the app on her phone and used it to perform the set up, it recognized the network on the first try and has worked seamlessly ever since. I should have remembered that fact sooner because I ran into a similar issue adding an extra HomePod to the house a few months earlier. Just a weird Apple quirk that isn’t spelled out in any of the documentation provided with the plug.

I’ve been using Wemo switched plugs for years, and from the beginning I’ve been happy with them. Belkin is a well know name that I trust, and their support is beyond compare. When dealing with AC electricity, it’s important to me to have a brand and company I trust. The other major selling point for me are these are rated for 15 amps. A couple of set up tips. When you first connect, your mobile device is connecting to your Wemo plug as if it were Wifi. When it asks you to select your network and enter your house Wifi password, physically putting a little distance between the phone and switch seems to help connect. If you are re-using a name on a new switch or renaming a switch, delete it from Alexa first, then rename it in the Wemo app then find the newly added or renamed switch in Alexa. For google home, if you rename something in the Wemo app google picks up on it without having to do more These switches are 2.4 Ghz, which is appropriate for this type of device. If you are having trouble with your switches dropping off your network, it could be a problem with your router and not the device. My old router could not handle the number of wifi devices I had connected but once I upgraded that no more issues. These switches are a little more expensive than others, but the quality is also better.

I’ve been using Belkin’s Wemo smart plugs for years. Started with the big tan plugs (model F7C027), later the added the wide single plug height (model F7C029), and more recently purchased the narrower single plug height model. I write this as a loyal customer that has many years of experience with these plugs.

I love the ability to automate turning on lights and other items with these plugs. It’s nice to have lights come on automatically in the morning or evening so the family has light when they wake or come home. I also love their integration with Alexa.

The automation and integration works great when initially set up, but then something happens and they lose their connection to the Wemo app and Alexa. This used to be very infrequent, maybe once a year–annoying, but tolerable. In the past year, this has become a much more frequent event.

Belkin has changed something, either in the plug firmware or the service. The devices are listed as not found in the Wemo app and Alexa cannot find them. Sometimes, you can unplug them for 30 seconds and then plug them back in and they’ll reconnect. At other times, you have to completely reset them to get them to be recognized by the Wemo app and Alexa. The frequency of this problem and the steps to get them reconnected combine to make this entirely too much work. They’re unreliable as they currently stand in March 2022.

I’m sure Belkin will point to something with WiFi or the internet service. I’ve been using the same Wi-Fi router for the past three years. It is rock solid. I have had no trouble with any other always connected devices. My internet service is also very stable. I work from home and am on calls all day. There are no problems with the WiFi or internet service. Regardless, Belkin should consider that neither the router or the internet connection will be perfect, so their devices should be designed to be resilient to interruptions.

I hope Belkin reads these reviews. I want to love their Wemo plugs and switches. I want to be a Raving Fan and freely recommend their products. Unfortunately, I cannot at the moment.

Stay away from these plugs for now. They’re too expensive for the reliability problems and they’ll drive you nuts.

I have had WEMO devices essentially since the beginning… and my OLD ones are getting a little creaky. The WEMO “mini” is HUGE now compared to version 3. I got a Version 3 set of 3 plugs and this is the review for those. I agree with the users here that you now have to set up an account with WEMO if you haven’t already in order to make them work. At least they don’t charge you anything. I use them with Alexa… and Alexa really isn’t that user friendly either. The other thing you MUST do is activate Alexa or Home or Google IN the actual WEMO app or the NEW versions of the devices will not work. ALL my devices worked after getting the WEMO Version 3, EXCEPT the version 3. SO I had to Google how to fix it. Luckily there are other miserable people out there who put very clear instructions in the blogs and I followed those and was able to get it to work without having to contact customer service. Adding a WEMO V3 to the app is easier than adding the old devices.

Worked initially once set but if you remove the plug from power good luck trying to connect to the plug. Easier to flick the switch. Will never buy this type of gadget, better things to do.
